Our Approach

Eugene grew up in a large garden in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne and spent most weekends working with plants and maintaining his family garden. In 1986 Eugene Gilligan Garden Design was established and is still one of the leading residential garden design studios in Melbourne today.

We take an individual approach to each of our projects through a tailored selection of high-quality finishes, unique planting palettes and garden furnishing. Our long history and experience ensure our designs beautifully complement and enhance the architectural style of the homes we work with. We design architectural structures such as swimming pools, pergolas, pavilions, climbing frames, as well as outdoor furniture. The scale and proportion of each garden is considered while emphasising the essential role of plants, which are carefully selected and arranged to soften and enrich the space through texture and seasonal colour.

In 2003 Eugene founded EG Horticulture to install and maintain Eugene Gilligan Garden Designed gardens. EG Horticulture plays a crucial role in the success of our gardens from the soft landscaping to the planting and ongoing maintenance. Having our own in-house horticultural division creates a rare and seamless link between the design and installation of our projects. Thanks to EG Horticulture, Eugene and the team have the pleasure of being involved in our projects from concept to completion and into maturity.
